Save Electricity - Tim Kyle Electric, Heating & Cooling

Save Electricity and Cut Back on Waste

Though most people’s New Year resolutions involve health or exercise, those aren’t the only things that could be improved upon in 2018. If you want to make a few changes in your home, then you’ll be able to save electricity like never before… and your wallet will thank you for it.

Be Safe and Save Electricity in 2018

Whether to prevent the risk of a small fire or to simply break a bad habit, work on reducing the amount of things plugged into the same extension cord this year. You can actually look into creating new outlets instead, which are less expensive than you think, and can add value to the home (people like having a lot of outlets).

Also, something you may never have done before is to do a sweep for ‘dust bunnies’ and similar offenders which gather in corners, under beds, and behind furniture. These clumps are unsightly, yes, but they can actually act as another fire hazard since a spark will easily ignite them.

Most people offend common safety practices by not replacing the batteries on devices like smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, or by never checking that they work in the first place. Make sure that you do this in the start of the new year.

How old is the laptop that you use to watch Netflix in bed? Whatever the case, know that the older it is, the worse the fan is likely to be… and the bigger the potential for it to overheat and cause burn damage. If you must hold your laptop on your lap and on fabric surfaces, then invest in a small lap desk so that it at least sits flat and off of the flammable materials.

Finally, if you still haven’t made the switch to LED bulbs, then consider doing so now in order to save power like never before. These lights “use 75% energy and last 35 to 50 times longer than incandescents,” so there’s absolutely no reason not to swap them out.
